Texas Home Invasion Thieves Posed as Officers with Red and Blue Lights, Sheriff Says

San Antonio , Texas – Authorities in Bexar County are searching for two men who allegedly posed as law enforcement officers while breaking into a home over the weekend, an incident the local sheriff called both “brazen” and “bizarre.”

According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, the suspects forced their way into a residence in the 8400 block of Aloe Vera Trace. The fake officers were equipped with red and blue lights on their vehicle, a detail Salazar noted as a deliberate attempt to mimic legitimate law enforcement.

The burglary unfolded when a resident identified as Kyle heard commotion at the back of the home and witnessed at least one of the suspects—dressed entirely in black with his face covered—shattering a window with a hammer to gain entry.

During the forced entry, the men verbally identified themselves as law enforcement officers. However, their actions immediately raised red flags. “Most law enforcement officers would go to the front door and knock on the door,” Sheriff Salazar said. “These guys are either really, really brave thieves or really, really stupid, to be frank with you.”

Once inside, the fake officers were confronted by a female adult in the home, who physically ordered them to leave. Sheriff Salazar praised her composure under threat. “Kudos to the homeowner for having the wherewithal to just order these guys to get out of her home, which they did,” he said. “But of course, I can sit and think of 100 different scenarios that could have gone the other way, and none of them are good.”

The suspects complied and fled through the front door, ultimately stealing nothing from the residence. Sheriff Salazar expressed relief that the encounter ended without physical harm to the family inside.

A neighbor who asked to be identified only as John said he was baffled by the incident. “It’s scary to think about people pulling up in random vehicles and claiming that they’re cops,” he said. “You see it in movies, but for it to actually happen, it’s crazy.”

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to be on the lookout for the suspects’ vehicle: a copper-bronze colored SUV with tinted windows, black rims, and a covered license plate.
