A 31-year-old unidentified man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following an officer-involved shooting on San Antonio’s west side this afternoon, according to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.
The incident unfolded just before 1:30 p.m. in the area of the 3900 block of Chihuahua Street, near the 3100 block of Vera Cruz Street. Authorities responded to an anonymous tip indicating a wanted felon was hiding in a residence. Chief McManus confirmed that officers were familiar with both the suspect and the property.
According to Chief McManus, officers entered the backyard to locate the individual when the suspect suddenly fled. He jumped a fence into a neighboring yard with officers in pursuit. During the chase, three shots were fired. The suspect was struck twice and transported by San Antonio Fire Department personnel to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. His current condition remains unknown.
Chief McManus stated that a firearm was recovered at the location where the suspect was shot. However, investigators have not yet determined whether the suspect fired at officers or brandished a weapon during the encounter.
“The investigation is ongoing to clarify the sequence of events during those chaotic moments,” Chief McManus said.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative duty, consistent with department protocol during officer-involved shooting investigations. The suspect’s identity has not been released pending notification of family and further investigative steps.
The case remains under active review by internal affairs and relevant oversight units.
