BAKERSFIELD, California — An active hostage situation unfolded Tuesday afternoon at a Chase Bank branch in downtown Bakersfield, where authorities confirmed a man allegedly wearing an explosive device is holding at least one person captive.

The Bakersfield Police Department responded to the bank at the intersection of 17th Street and Chester Avenue shortly after 1 p.m. local time following reports of a bomb threat.
