Girl, 5, Grazed by Bullet in Bronx Crossfire; Grandfather Speaks Out

Police are searching for three men who allegedly opened fire on a busy street in the Bronx’s Longwood section during rush hour, grazing a 5-year-old girl with a bullet.

The NYPD says the three suspects fired shots on Southern Boulevard as people were walking nearby. New surveillance video shows pedestrians suddenly looking back and scrambling as what appears to be a group of teens sprints past, with at least one displaying a gun.

According to police sources, the 5-year-old girl was walking with her mother when she was caught in the crossfire. The NYPD confirmed that the child’s ear was grazed by a bullet. Sources say two groups were firing at each other, and the girl was not the intended target.

Speaking exclusively by phone, the girl’s grandfather said she is in the hospital in stable condition. “They said she’s going to be okay. You know, she’s a beautiful girl. That’s my little moneyman,” he said.

He added, “A little girl’s been traumatized. I’m happy I could play with her toys.”

One witness told authorities he ducked between two cars to shield himself from the gunfire, describing the area as “what they call the red zone. This is the belly of the beast.”

A bullet also struck a local deli, shattering its glass window. Police have released images of the three men they are looking for, who allegedly displayed and discharged firearms.

The grandfather drew a parallel to the April 1st shooting in Brooklyn, where police said baby Kyrie Patterson Moore was killed by a stray bullet. “These young kids playing with these guns, it’s just crazy. And all these cameras they got, they need to put them to use,” he said.
