5 Indicted in Statewide Medicaid Fraud Crackdown, Over $40,000 Stolen

Atlanta, Georgia — Five individuals are facing felony charges following a statewide crackdown on Medicaid fraud, with state officials alleging the defendants collectively stole more than $40,000 from the program.

According to the state attorney general’s office, two of the suspects are from Gwinnett County. One is accused of submitting false time sheets while working as a personal care assistant for Atlanta Elderly Home Care in Norcross. The other is accused of billing for services that were never provided to a Medicaid recipient.

The remaining three suspects hail from Augusta, Warner Robins, and Winterville in Athens-Clarke County.

The indictments were secured by the state attorney general’s Medicaid Fraud and Patient Protection Division. Officials credited the division with more than 100 convictions to date, resulting in nearly $26 million in restitution.
