Georgia Governor to Sign New Tax Cut Legislation Amid Affordability Push

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is set to sign new tax-cutting legislation tomorrow morning, continuing a multi-year push to reduce the financial burden on state residents. His office confirms the upcoming laws are designed to further cut taxes while bolstering the state’s pro-growth, business-friendly environment.

The announcement follows a legislative session already marked by multiple tax relief bills. This marks the fourth consecutive year the state has moved to cut the state income tax. In addition to the incoming measures, the governor has previously signed a gas tax relief bill, which is set to expire in just over a week. Eligible Georgians are also currently receiving tax rebates.

Speaking on Friday, Governor Kemp emphasized the cumulative impact of these efforts. “It’s the 4th year in a row that we’ve done that. It’s the 4th year in a row that we’ve cut the state income tax,” Kemp said. “We did property tax relief this year as well, so we’ve done a lot of things to help with affordability. We’ll continue to watch the gas price situation.”

However, the property tax cuts awaiting the governor’s signature have drawn criticism from Democrats. They have expressed concerns that the reduction could lead to less funding for local school districts and may disproportionately benefit wealthier homeowners rather than renters.

Full coverage of the signing is scheduled for tomorrow at 11 a.m.
