Trump Declares Iran’s Ceasefire Response ‘Totally Unacceptable’

President Donald Trump has sharply rejected Iran’s latest response to a United States proposal aimed at ending the ongoing Middle East conflict, calling the move “totally unacceptable” in a social media post on Sunday.

The development comes as the U.S. reviews a proposal sent back from Iran via Pakistani mediators, which reportedly seeks a more long-term permanent ceasefire. Iranian state media had confirmed earlier Sunday that Tehran returned the proposal to Washington for further review.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump wrote: “I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called representatives. I don’t like it. Totally unacceptable. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

The President also accused Iran of “playing games” in a separate post, adding that “there will be no laughing matter.” A fragile ceasefire currently remains in place, though tensions have shown signs of strain.

According to reports, Iran’s response focuses on permanently ending the war across multiple fronts, including in Lebanon, where Israel is fighting the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group, and ensuring the security of regional shipping lanes. Washington’s latest proposal addressed a potential deal to end the war, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and roll back Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran’s new supreme leader, Majaba Kamani, has not been seen or heard publicly since the war began. However, his office issued what were described as “new and decisive directives for the continuation of operations and the powerful confrontation of the enemies.”

The fragility of the current ceasefire was tested recently when a drone ignited a small fire on a ship off the coast of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Separately, Kuwait reported drones entering its airspace. The UAE said it shot down two drones and blamed Iran for the incident. No casualties were reported, and no group immediately claimed responsibility.

A statement from Centcom noted that the incident did not rise to the level of ending the ceasefire at this moment, despite reports of bombardment from both sides, which each claimed were acts of self-defense.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy artery, remains a key point of concern as diplomatic efforts continue.
