MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – A private security guard remains hospitalized after being attacked Monday morning while confronting a suspect who was attempting to break into vehicles inside a parking garage adjacent to the Milwaukee County Courthouse.
The incident occurred just before 6:30 a.m. at the MacArthur Square Parking Garage on North 9th Street and West Wells Street. Investigators spent hours behind the garage gates collecting evidence and cordoning off a section of the facility.
According to Milwaukee police dispatch audio, the victim is a 34-year-old male security guard employed by a private company for the garage. The dispatcher reported that the guard “got into an altercation with a civilian” and “got punched in the face.”
Police say the guard encountered a 32-year-old man inside the garage who was trying to break into cars. When the guard confronted the suspect, the suspect attacked him. The guard was transported to a hospital with injuries that police confirmed he did survive, and he continues to receive treatment.
Milwaukee police confirmed that the 32-year-old suspect was arrested near the crime scene. Authorities say criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
WISN 12 News has learned the security guard works for a private security firm, though the company’s name has not been released.
