Police Fatally Shoot Suspect After Carpentersville Restaurant Attack

CARPENTERSVILLE, Illinois — Police officers shot and killed a man early Saturday at a restaurant and bar in this northwest suburban community after he shot two people inside the establishment, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred around midnight at a restaurant, bar and gambling lounge at the intersection of Route 25 and Kings Road. Police closed the entire parking lot for hours as investigators placed approximately two dozen evidence markers amid shattered glass. Bullet holes were visible through the glass doors and windows of the business.

General Manager Kevin Reels said his father was inside the supermarket next door when he heard the gunshots. His father came outside and saw a woman on the ground, Reels said. According to Reels, a crowd of about 10 to 15 people had been waiting outside, including a couple who were entering the restaurant when the suspect followed them inside.

Reels stated that surveillance video shows the shooter pursuing the couple into the establishment. “He followed them inside the restaurant. He just went all out. To be honest, it was pretty brutal,” Reels said.

According to the owner, police arrived quickly and observed the suspect firing shots. Officers returned fire, striking and killing the man. Two victims were transported to a local hospital; one is listed in stable condition, while the other remains in critical condition.

Investigators indicated that the individuals involved knew each other and that the violence stemmed from a domestic violence situation. Police emphasized the incident was isolated to those involved and that no officers were injured.

Business owners in the strip mall arrived early Saturday to assess damage and determine if they could reopen. One owner expressed shock after reviewing footage. “They had the pictures of the shooting, the bullets and all that. I was like, man, it’s something serious,” the owner said.

La Ilusion, the restaurant and bar where the shooting occurred, released a statement expressing sorrow for the victims while confirming that all staff members were safe. The establishment planned to remain closed at least for the day. “Our employees are pretty shocked. I feel really bad for them. They’re a little traumatized right now,” Reels said.

The Illinois State Police has assumed jurisdiction over the investigation, as is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings. Authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as the probe moves forward.
