Peaceful Resolution After SWAT Standoff in Sandy Springs Domestic Dispute

SANDY SPRINGS, Georgia – A tense multi-agency SWAT standoff ended peacefully Wednesday morning when a suspect voluntarily surrendered following an alleged domestic assault.

The incident unfolded at the Glen Lake Apartments on the 6800 block of Glen Lake Parkway, near Abernathy Road and the UPS headquarters. Sandy Springs police said the situation began around 8 a.m. when a woman called to report that the father of her child had assaulted her. Both individuals lived in the apartment.

As officers approached the unit, they heard what they believed to be gunshots coming from inside. Police immediately withdrew and began evacuating residents as a precaution.

“Our negotiators were able to establish contact with him over the phone, and they convinced him to come out peacefully,” Sandy Springs police said in a statement. “He was not harmed. Nobody else was harmed.”

Dozens of squad cars and multiple SWAT units arrived at the scene. Residents on one side of the apartment complex were kept away from the area, with many expressing concern during the several-hour ordeal.

The suspect was identified by police as 33-year-old Dennis Carter. Authorities confirmed that the child was not present in the home at the time of the incident.

Just before 10:30 a.m., residents were allowed to return to their apartments, and the scene has since cleared. No injuries were reported.
