Multiple People Shot in Paterson as City Councilman Describes Scene as ‘Out of Control’

PATERSON, New Jersey – A shooting involving multiple victims is under investigation in Paterson, where police have marked dozens of pieces of evidence at the intersection of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Godwin Avenue.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of people shot, their ages, or their conditions. According to eyewitness news reports from the scene, between four and five victims are believed to have been injured, though officials caution that number could rise.

Police were called to the location around 9 p.m. following reports of shots fired. Officers have since cordoned off the area, where multiple shell casings have been recovered. Investigators from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office are also on scene and expected to have a very busy night ahead.

Video provided by a neighbor, described as too graphic to air, shows at least two shooting victims on the ground earlier tonight. The footage also shows police forcefully holding another man down as he yells, “Help my brother!”

City Councilman, who is running for mayor against the current mayor, told reporters he ran inside for cover when he heard the shots and later came to the intersection to assess the situation.

“Multiple people got shot right here. My office is a block away from here. I was working with all my volunteers and I hear all the shooting, so it was scary,” the Councilman said. “I mean, it’s just—the city is out of control.”

He remains waiting for an official update from police on the number of victims, their ages, and their conditions.

The scene remains active as police continue gathering evidence. No arrests have been announced, and the motive behind the shooting is not yet known.
