Man Shot by Deputies After Chase in Johnson County, Officials Say

JOHNSON COUNTY — A man with multiple outstanding warrants was shot by deputies following a traffic stop, chase, and crash after he allegedly threatened to engage in a shootout with law enforcement rather than return to prison, authorities said.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted a traffic stop on a man identified as Joseph Boy. Officials said Boy, who had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest, fled the stop, leading to a vehicle chase.

Authorities claimed Boy had previously made threats to engage in a shootout with officers instead of returning to prison. The pursuit ended in a crash, after which Boy allegedly tried to grab a gun, prompting deputies to shoot him, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Boy was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately known.

The incident marks the latest officer-involved shooting reported in the North Texas area.
