Fort Worth Police Fatally Shoot Armed Suspect After Reports of Gunfire; Second Fatal Shooting Follows Pursuit

FORT WORTH, Texas — Police fatally shot an armed man in a front yard early Sunday after responding to reports of shots fired in a neighborhood, with one bullet from the exchange striking a nearby house.

Officers were dispatched just after midnight to the Wiman Drive area following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they heard additional gunshots and encountered a man holding a weapon. According to investigators, the suspect refused orders to drop the gun and pointed it at officers, prompting police to open fire. The man died at the scene.

A homeowner whose house was struck by a bullet during the shooting told reporters the suspect was killed in her front yard.

While officers were still investigating the first incident, Chief Eddie Garcia said a driver sped past them, initiating a short pursuit. The suspect fled onto Highway I-820, where police stopped the vehicle using a PIT maneuver.

The second suspect died after police opened fire. Authorities said he not only refused to pull over but also attempted to grab one of the officers’ weapons.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
