FedEx Driver Used Delivery Route to Sell Drugs, Texas Sheriff Says

FREDERICKSBURG, Texas – A two-month investigation led to the arrest of a FedEx delivery driver who authorities say was selling cocaine and other narcotics while on his daily route, according to the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office.

Kenneth Hicks, an Austin man, now faces numerous drug charges after undercover operatives made four purchases from him during his routine deliveries.

“We were notified that there was an individual that worked for FedEx that was selling narcotics while doing his actual route as a FedEx delivery person,” said Sheriff Christopher Ayala.

The undercover narcotics team worked to build a relationship with Hicks over time. “There was a trust method that was built to where he would trust our undercover agent… to where he would be willing to meet him somewhere,” Ayala explained.

During the course of those interactions, investigators purchased Molly, THC vape pens, and cocaine from Hicks. “The biggest one is he was selling cocaine on a regular basis to people in Gillespie County,” Ayala said.

The arrest took place last Wednesday on West Trailmore Drive, as Hicks was handing off a package at a business. Deputies greeted him and placed him in handcuffs. “He was totally caught off guard when they made the arrest,” the sheriff added.

The operation involved the Texas Department of Public Safety alongside local authorities. “The ultimate goal is to say that we’re doing our best as the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office to eliminate narcotics being sold in Gillespie County,” Ayala said.

Local residents expressed relief following the bust. “Good on him. I’m very glad he’s under arrest and, as you said, innocent until proven guilty, but super creepy that it’s happening in Fredericksburg,” one resident said.

Sheriff Ayala noted that investigators are also looking into potential charges for individuals who allegedly bought drugs from Hicks.
