A school bus carrying approximately 30 children became stuck in a sinkhole in the Bronx on Wednesday afternoon, prompting an emergency response from the FDNY.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. as the bus was traveling on East 180th Street near Devoe Avenue. According to the FDNY, the rear or undercarriage of the vehicle became trapped after the roadway gave way.
All 30 children on board were able to exit the bus on their own without requiring mechanical assistance. The FDNY confirmed that one person sustained injuries as a result of the incident. No further details about the extent of the injuries or the identity of the injured individual were immediately released.
Authorities remained on the scene to assess the sinkhole and secure the area. The cause of the roadway collapse is under investigation.
