MARTA Police Hunt Suspect After Midtown Station Shooting Injures Teen

Atlanta, Georgia — MARTA police are actively investigating a shooting at the Midtown station that injured a 19-year-old man and remain in search of the suspect, who fled the scene.

The incident occurred just after 7 p.m. on the train platform, according to MARTA Police Chief M. Scott Kreher. A patrolling officer heard gunshots, immediately rushed toward the danger, and discovered the teenage victim. Chief Kreher stated the officer applied a tourniquet to the young man’s wounds—a decisive action that may have saved his life.

The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his arm and hand. Chief Kreher reported that he is in stable condition, in good spirits, and has spoken with his mother.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the station, but the suspect had already departed before their arrival. Detectives are now reviewing surveillance footage from the camera network in and around the Midtown station and utilizing additional technological resources to identify and locate the gunman.

Authorities have not disclosed whether the suspect and victim were previously acquainted, nor have they released information regarding any prior criminal history associated with the suspect.

Chief Kreher confirmed that both individuals had properly paid their fares and entered the station through the fare gates.

This shooting follows a recent series of violent incidents on the MARTA system, including two stabbings—one of which was fatal—renewing focus on rider safety and security protocols across the transit network.

MARTA police continue to urge anyone with information about the shooting to come forward as the investigation remains ongoing.
