U.S. President Donald Trump sharply criticized several major media organizations while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One following his two-day visit to China, accusing outlets of spreading “fake news” about the Iran conflict and claiming some reporting was “treasonous.”
The confrontation came after journalists challenged Trump’s assertions regarding the outcome of the war and Iran’s military capabilities. Trump insisted the United States had achieved what he described as a “total military victory” and rejected reports suggesting Iran still possesses a significant missile arsenal.
“The fake news guys like you write incorrectly,” Trump told reporters during the exchange. He accused journalists and news organizations of failing to report accurately on the conflict and claimed their coverage distorted the outcome of the military campaign.
Trump specifically criticized The New York Times, CNN and BBC, alleging they had misrepresented his statements and coverage of the war. He claimed some reports had falsely portrayed Iran as remaining in a strong military position despite what he described as decisive U.S. success.
During the exchange, Trump said he believed some reporting amounted to “treason,” arguing that media outlets were undermining the United States by questioning his administration’s claims about the conflict.
Trump also referenced an ongoing legal dispute involving the BBC, alleging the broadcaster had published inaccurate statements attributed to him through artificial intelligence-generated content. He claimed the organization later admitted the material was false and said the broadcaster was facing a multibillion-dollar lawsuit.
The remarks underscored Trump’s long-running disputes with major news organizations, tensions that have intensified amid debate over U.S. policy toward Iran and coverage of the conflict.
