Trump Claims Iran Guaranteed No Nuclear Weapons as War Deal Talks Stall

Negotiations to end the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran remain deadlocked, with divergent public statements underscoring the difficulty of reaching a final agreement.

According to reports circulating in American media, President Donald Trump has proposed revised terms to a draft framework aimed at ending hostilities, with U.S. officials indicating the updated proposal has been returned to Iranian intermediaries for consideration. The reported adjustments are characterized as strengthening conditions placed on Iran.

In response, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s parliament speaker and chief negotiator, addressed the public via Iranian state television. Ghalibaf stated that Tehran would not accept any proposal from Washington unless it included concrete assurances that the rights of the Iranian people would be upheld. He added that Iranian negotiators do not trust promises made by the United States.

The conflict, which began on February 28, has been under a temporary ceasefire since April 8, though no formal end to hostilities has been declared. Diplomatic efforts have been complicated by persistent disagreements, most notably concerning the future of Iran’s nuclear program.

During a Saturday evening interview, President Trump asserted that Iran had already committed to forgoing the development of nuclear weapons. “No nukes was one guarantee that I had to have, and Iran had agreed,” Trump stated, describing the reported concession as noteworthy.

Iranian officials, however, have consistently maintained that discussions regarding the nation’s nuclear program would only occur after a comprehensive agreement to end the war has been finalized. This fundamental difference in sequencing—whether nuclear issues are addressed before or after a broader settlement—continues to present a significant obstacle to progress.

As proposals continue to circulate through diplomatic channels, both sides appear entrenched in their positions. With trust deficits and divergent priorities complicating the path forward, the prospect of a lasting resolution remains uncertain.
