Toledo Festival Shooting: 12 Injured as Search for Two Suspects Continues

TOLEDO, Ohio — Twelve bystanders were injured Saturday at a popular street festival when two individuals opened fire, likely targeting each other, according to law enforcement. All victims are reported in stable condition.

The shooting occurred during a live musical performance as hundreds gathered for the community event. Police believe the two suspects were engaged in a confrontation that escalated into gunfire, striking bystanders ranging in age from 14 to 61, with many victims in their early 20s.

Investigators are following multiple leads but have not yet taken anyone into custody. Authorities continue to request public assistance, emphasizing that tips can be submitted anonymously.

Lucas County Prosecutor Julia Bates stated that her office will pursue “swift and strong justice” once suspects are apprehended. Bates added that prosecutors may file additional felony assault charges related to discharging a firearm into a crowd.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes as attendees fled for safety. One individual reported seeing a gun discarded on the ground less than 50 feet away. Several witnesses noted a physical altercation earlier in the day that they believe may be connected to the shooting.

“It was quite scary,” one attendee recounted, describing victims injured on the ground and the urgency of emergency responders arriving at the scene.

While some community members expressed concern that the violence may be gang-related, others noted that the festival location has historically served as neutral ground for local disputes.

Festival organizers canceled the remainder of the event, stating that continuing would not be “compassionate, responsible, or even really possible” following the violence.

The investigation remains active as police work to identify and locate the two suspects.
