A quiet drive through Soundview turned violent late Tuesday night when gunfire erupted, sending a stray bullet through a car’s rear window and injuring two young passengers.
According to police, a 43-year-old woman was driving northbound on Beach Avenue just before 10 p.m. when shots were fired. The bullet struck the vehicle’s rear window, shattering the glass onto a 10-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy sitting in the back seat.
Emergency services responded to the scene, and both children were transported to a local hospital. Authorities confirmed that they are both expected to recover from their injuries.
A police spokesperson stated that the car’s rear window was hit, and the shattered glass fell directly onto the two victims. The spokesperson also noted that flames did not spread into any nearby buildings during the incident.
No information regarding a suspect or motive has been released at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
