Man Shot Near Milwaukee Schools, Daycare; Victim Expected to Recover

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin — A 31-year-old man was shot early Wednesday morning near multiple educational facilities on the city’s north side, authorities confirmed.

Milwaukee Police spokespersons said officers responded to the area near 44th and Center streets at 7:57 a.m. following reports of a shooting. The incident occurred just blocks from Milwaukee Math and Science Academy, Washington High School, and a licensed child care center.

Evidence markers were placed outside Jay’s Food Convenience Store on the corner as investigators processed the scene. Police spokespersons confirmed the victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover.

During the investigation, police blocked off portions of the area, including access near the child care center. When contacted, representatives at Washington High School did not immediately clarify whether the campus had been placed on lockdown during the incident. A statement from Milwaukee Public Schools was referenced but not immediately available.

Milwaukee Police spokespersons stated that investigators are still working to determine what led to the shooting and have not yet identified a motive. Authorities also confirmed they are actively searching for the person responsible.

The presence of multiple schools and childcare facilities in the immediate vicinity heightened community concern, though police spokespersons emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and urged anyone with information to come forward.
