Man Killed, Suspected Shooter Shot by Chicago Police in Uptown

CHICAGO, Illinois — A fatal confrontation in Uptown Chicago left a 63-year-old man dead and a suspected gunman in critical condition after he was shot by police on Monday night.

The violence unfolded around 8:20 p.m. near a condominium complex in the area of Clark and Ainslie streets. According to police investigators, the incident began as a verbal altercation between the victim and another man. A local homeowner reported seeing the two arguing, noting that the victim was the building’s condo board president and the suspect was an individual frequently seen in the neighborhood.

The dispute quickly turned physical when the suspect drew a firearm and shot the 63-year-old multiple times. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with one individual stating they returned to the area to find the victim’s body in a traffic circle while neighbors performed CPR and multiple bystanders called 911.

The suspected shooter fled the scene on foot, heading north. Responding officers tracked him near Argyle Street, where the confrontation with law enforcement occurred. Investigators report that the suspect turned toward the pursuing officers and raised his weapon in their direction, prompting the police to open fire.

The suspect was transported to a hospital in critical condition. His identity has not yet been released by authorities. While local residents have identified the deceased victim as the condo board president, officials are still working to officially confirm his name.

Three officers were taken to a hospital for observation following the incident and are expected to recover. In accordance with standard department protocol, the involved officers have been placed on desk duty for at least 30 days while an official review of the shooting is conducted.
