Former Arcadia Mayor Eileen Wang Admits to Acting as Chinese Agent, Faces Up to 10 Years

ARCADIA, California – Former Arcadia mayor Eileen Wang, 58, is expected to plead guilty to one felony count of acting in the United States as an illegal agent of a foreign government, federal authorities announced Monday.

The Justice Department charged Wang with operating a website called “US NewsCenter,” which was meant for Chinese Americans, according to court documents. The site is accused of posting articles that executed directives from the Chinese government.

Wang is set to appear in court this afternoon and is expected to enter her guilty plea in the coming days. She faces a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

The charges stem from her activities running the website several years ago. Arcadia is a city in Los Angeles County, located just north and east of downtown Los Angeles.

The City of Arcadia addressed the case in a statement, saying it “supports a thorough and comprehensive investigation by our federal partners into these serious allegations. As this process unfolds, we will continue to inform and engage our residents on this matter.”
