WASHINGTON — Education Secretary Linda McMahon is urging a nationwide return to the Pledge of Allegiance in K-12 schools, citing a severe decline in American patriotism and civics education among students. Speaking alongside Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins during a recent television broadcast, McMahon highlighted the urgent need to reeducate American youth on the nation’s founding values, history, and civic responsibilities.
Restoring Patriotism and Civics in Schools
During the discussion, McMahon expressed concern that young Americans are no longer being taught to love their country. She noted that international soccer players visiting the United States often display a deeper appreciation for the nation than what is typically portrayed in media reports.
Emphasizing the importance of studying civics and history, McMahon pointed out that students need to understand what it took to build and defend the country, including through two World Wars. She also observed that for some younger generations, historical events like the September 11 attacks are now considered “ancient history.”
According to McMahon, her travels as Education Secretary have revealed that the Pledge of Allegiance is not being taught in all schools, and there is a widespread lack of respect for the American flag. She cited a striking statistic, claiming that only about 25% of eighth graders possess any real appreciation for civics in the United States.
To combat this, McMahon suggested encouraging—or even “shaming”—governors and state superintendents into reinstating the Pledge of Allegiance in K-12 education. She shared an anecdote about a school principal outside of Chicago, Illinois, who informed her that the school had opted out of reciting the Pledge because the mayor had granted them the right to do so. McMahon argued that schools should instead be opting in to save the tradition.
Combating Institutional Shifts and “Indoctrination”
Both McMahon and Rollins were praised for their roles in “reeducating America” and pushing back against what was described as a leftward drift in major institutions. McMahon argued that big media, large corporations, and big government have spent decades indoctrinating youth to hate capitalism, free enterprise, liberty, and freedom.
She highlighted the need to fight against what she termed “socialist, communist, and anti-semitic” trends, specifically referencing a recent incident in Colorado. When discussing the ideological balance in higher education and institutions, it was noted that only 3% of faculty members are conservative, indicating a severe loss of balance.
Agricultural Success and the “Fight” for Freedom
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins was also highlighted for her department’s successes, specifically noting that egg prices have been driven down because companies have successfully put millions of eggs back on the market.
The conversation frequently turned to the broader political movement led by President Donald Trump. McMahon credited Trump with teaching the conservative side “how to fight” for their values, drawing direct parallels to the sacrifices made by founding fathers like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Alexander Hamilton. She reflected on Trump’s political journey, referencing the moment he “came down that escalator,” and argued that his movement has revitalized the willingness to sacrifice for freedom and liberty after those values were lost over the last couple of decades.
McMahon pointed to recent electoral successes as proof of the movement’s strength, noting that Trump won both the popular vote and the swing states. She emphasized that 8 out of 10 Americans—regardless of whether they are Republican or Democrat—support a secure border and educational choice.
Looking Ahead to Dallas
The broadcast concluded with a look toward the upcoming midterm convention in Dallas. The event was described as a perfect opportunity to educate the entire country about the current administration’s “crusade” to make the nation prosper and protect it, contrasting it with what was described as a socialist and communist alternative.
With the first 18 months of the administration already yielding significant results, officials are optimistic that by the time the convention arrives, the political winds will be firmly in their favor as they continue to elevate the conversation with the American people.
