Congressman Blasts Liberal Media for Spreading ‘False Propaganda’ on Trump Assassination Attempts

In a fiery segment addressing recent coverage of assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump, Rep. Brandon Gill accused left-leaning media outlets of amplifying false narratives and conspiracy theories, including claims that the attempts were staged.

Gill appeared before the House Oversight Committee to respond to what he described as a dangerous pattern of misinformation. He specifically cited comments from former MSNBC host Joy Reid and a France 24 reporter, who he said either cast doubt on the assassination attempts or highlighted how conspiracy theories spread rapidly on social media following a third attempt—this time at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

“It’s not just people’s brains that have been fried by hatred of President Trump. It’s their moral compass as well,” Gill said. “This was an assassination attempt that was on camera from multiple angles. We saw what happened that night. Everybody knows. And for a liberal reporter with a massive platform to go out and even suggest that this was staged somehow for the president’s political gain is absolutely depraved.”

Gill argued that the spread of such theories is fueled by state-sponsored bot farms from Russia, China, and Iran, but he placed particular blame on domestic liberal media for “running with” the propaganda. He claimed that one side of the political aisle has become so consumed by hatred for Trump, Republicans, conservatives, and Christians that “there are no lengths they will not go to in order to demonize the president.”

The congressman also linked the spread of these conspiracy theories to the broader climate that led to actual violence. “That’s why somebody got so crazy and tried to assassinate the president to begin with,” he said.

The segment’s host noted that a man was shot and killed in Butler, Pennsylvania, during one of the attempts, and another man was injured. Citing a Washington Post report, the host added that more than one in three Democrats believe the shooting was staged—a figure Gill called “terrible.”

“After an assassination attempt against the president, that should be a moment for every American to come together and unify and say with one voice that this is wrong, it is evil, and can never happen again,” Gill said. “To have one-third of one side of the aisle suggesting or believing that this is fake is terrible.”

He concluded by urging viewers to take politics out of the equation, calling the attempts a crime, plain and simple.
