A brush fire burning close to one of the Hudson River Tunnels has forced an immediate suspension of NJ Transit rail service into and out of Penn Station New York, authorities confirmed.
The agency posted video footage showing thick smoke and active flames along the tracks in Secaucus. NJ Transit officials stated that rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored, and commuters are urged to check the agency’s app for alternate routes.
The fire is burning in an area dense with highways, including the Turnpike, Route 3, and potentially Route 46. Motorists traveling through the Secaucus area are advised to take caution due to billowing smoke and reduced visibility.
At Penn Station New York, crowds have formed following the service suspension. There is no immediate word on when normal operations will resume.
