1-Year-Old Dead Following Police Shooting Outside Mississippi Walmart

MISSISSIPPI — A Mississippi Walmart parking lot has become the center of a tragic investigation after a police shooting left a 1-year-old dead following a reported shoplifting incident. The fatal event, which occurred on a Sunday, has sparked widespread outrage as the family of the toddler, identified as Kohen Wiley, demands answers and justice.

According to investigators, the confrontation began when law enforcement responded to the shoplifting call at the retail store. Authorities state that two adults and the infant attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle. During the escape, the drivers allegedly drove toward an officer, nearly striking them before a second officer opened fire on the car.

The family’s lawyer identified the two adults in the vehicle as the boy’s mother and a friend. Witness accounts painted a chaotic scene, with one bystander telling local media that they saw the two individuals leaving the store—one carrying the infant and the other holding a box of diapers.

Following the gunfire, the vehicle was driven to a local medical center. Medical personnel pronounced Kohen Wiley dead upon arrival. One of the adults suffered critical injuries from the exchange, while no law enforcement officers were harmed.

The child’s grieving relatives are now demanding accountability. The boy’s grandparent expressed profound devastation, stating, “I don’t know anything right now. My grandson gone. I just want justice.” Another family spokesperson echoed these sentiments, expressing frustration over the rapid escalation of the incident.

“I’m more angry because the situation that took place really was unnecessary,” the family member said. “What I’m hearing from what happened, it was unnecessary.”

Bystanders and community members have also voiced shock over the lethal response to what appears to be a minor theft. One witness questioned the deployment of deadly force, stating, “Policeman shot, open fire in a public setting. Over allegedly some Pampers.”
