Courthouse Security Guard Killed in Milwaukee Shooting; Sheriff Calls Death ‘A Tragedy That Hits Home’

Milwaukee, Wisconsin – A longtime Milwaukee County Courthouse security guard was shot and killed Friday evening near the intersection of Teutonia and Chambers, according to family members and the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim has been identified as Dennis Johnson, a public safety officer with the department for many years. Johnson was shot and killed inside his car late Friday afternoon, officials said.

In a written statement, Sheriff Denita Ball addressed the killing, saying, “Every senseless killing is a tragedy. However, because Johnson was a member of our family, this one hits home.”

The sheriff’s office issued the statement Friday night following the shooting. No further details about a suspect or motive have been released at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
