Senator Rick Scott, Republican of Florida, launched a sweeping critique of Democratic Party priorities on Tuesday, accusing his colleagues across the aisle of embracing far-left positions that put illegal immigrants, foreign adversaries, and even an alleged presidential assassin ahead of lawful American citizens.
“The Democrats have forgotten who the good guys are and the bad guys are,” Scott said. “The good guy is America. We stand for freedom and liberty and justice. Good guys are American citizens that have rights here. If you are here illegally, right, you don’t have rights. You are not entitled to things here.”
Scott’s remarks came in response to a series of recent Democratic proposals and statements, including a California gubernatorial candidate’s call for taxpayer-funded health insurance for undocumented immigrants. When asked about funding healthcare for illegal immigrants, one Democratic lawmaker stated: “Everyone in California has the right to health care. California should fund it.”
“Democrats have gone crazy,” Scott said. “They don’t know what good and bad is. It’s as simple as that.”
The senator also pointed to judicial proceedings involving Cole Tomas Allen, the man accused of attempting to assassinate President Trump. A federal judge recently expressed concern over the suspect’s treatment in solitary confinement, telling him in court: “We’re obligated to make sure he’s taken care of. Mr. Allen, I’m sorry that things have not been the way they are supposed to be.”
Scott reacted sharply: “You try to assassinate the president of the United States and you are supposed to get a beautiful Four Seasons experience? The Democrats have just completely forgotten who the good guys are.”
On foreign policy, Scott condemned Democrats who have criticized sanctions on communist Cuba. He cited congresswoman Pramila Jayapal who described sanctions as “an economic bombing of the infrastructure of Cuba” and revealed she had been in conversations with ambassadors from Mexico and other Latin American countries about how to get oil to the island following a U.S. operation.
“Cuba, think about what they are doing,” Scott said. “This is not a Holocaust survivor. This is a political prisoner that just got out of prison in Cuba. Democrats have gone down to support the regime.”
Scott contrasted Democratic positions with the Trump administration’s approach to Iran, rejecting characterizations of recent military posture as a “war of choice.”
“Number one, I don’t think they know right and wrong,” Scott said of Democrats. “Number two, they hate Trump. Whatever Trump does, they hate. Thank God we have a president that finally is standing up against Iran instead of the appeasement of Obama and Biden.”
The senator warned that Democratic policies harm American families across multiple fronts.
“Democrat policies are horrible for American citizens and America,” Scott said. “I hope that everyone stops and says, what is good for my family? Democrat policies are not good for your job, education of our kids, public safety, or your life.”
When asked about the prospects of a diplomatic deal with Iran, Scott was unequivocal: “They can’t have a nuclear weapon. If we care about our friends and neighbors and family, Iran shall never have a nuclear weapon to kill us.”
He added of the Iranian regime: “I hope they are wiped off the face of the earth.”
