WASHINGTON — A third Strait of Hormuz tanker strike has significantly escalated Iran tensions after an unidentified projectile damaged a vessel’s engine room off the coast of Oman, leaving the ship unable to maneuver. The latest maritime incident has prompted the White House to warn that Tehran will face continued consequences until it returns to the negotiating table.
According to maritime trade operations authorities, the strike occurred approximately 11 nautical miles northeast of Lima, Oman. Details provided by the vessel’s company security officer confirmed that while the engine room sustained critical damage, there were no reported casualties or environmental impacts. Oman’s Coast Guard has been formally informed and is currently investigating the event.
In a separate but related development, authorities issued another alert regarding a second incident 21 nautical miles northeast of Oman. The master of a different vessel reported observing a large splash and an explosion in close proximity to their ship. While no damage was reported to that vessel, maritime authorities are actively investigating and have advised all ships to transit the area with heightened caution and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
These events follow recent claims by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, which stated earlier in the week that it had struck two other tankers attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. This brings the total number of targeted commercial vessels to three in a matter of days, raising global concerns over the security of critical shipping routes.
In response to the escalating maritime attacks, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that President Trump is actively considering additional strikes against Iran. Addressing the expanded aggression, Leavitt stated that the United States had previously signaled a memorandum of understanding with Tehran. However, she noted that Iran broke the agreement, shot at commercial ships, and killed American soldiers.
“President Trump is not going to stand by and allow this terrorist behavior to occur,” Leavitt stated, emphasizing that Iran will continue to face severe repercussions until it comes to the negotiating table in a “meaningful way.”
As investigations into the latest projectile strike continue, international maritime traffic remains on high alert, with diplomatic and military responses from the United States expected to shape the next phase of regional security operations.
