PENNSYLVANIA — President Donald Trump confirmed today that U.S. forces have launched a new wave of strikes on Iran, marking the second such military action of the day. The operation, officially verified by U.S. CENTCOM in a public statement on X, targeted Iranian military capabilities specifically designed to threaten commercial shipping vessels navigating the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking at an Innovation Summit in Pennsylvania, President Trump revealed he was pulled aside during the event to receive a direct call confirming the military action. When questioned about the possibility of negotiating with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the President drew a stark comparison to past counterterrorism efforts, stating the U.S. possesses the capability to “wipe them out” like ISIS if necessary. However, he noted that Iranian representatives have already expressed a desire to meet.
President Trump criticized previous administrations, asserting that they failed to secure a deal with Iran for over 47 years because they did not employ his current approach, describing historical negotiations with the country as exceptionally difficult.
Addressing recent security concerns and threats originating from Iran, President Trump expressed strong confidence in his security detail. This marked his first public appearance outside the White House since the recent NATO Summit. He stated that he deliberately avoids thinking about threats to his life, as doing so would render him ineffective, though he praised his protective teams for doing a “good job” ensuring his safety.
Shifting focus to international sporting events, the President confirmed he plans to attend the World Cup Final game. He proudly touted the U.S. hosting experience, claiming it was financially “four times more successful than any other World Cup.” While acknowledging that soccer is “not our game” in America, he emphasized that the country served as the “best ambassador” by maintaining a highly secure environment. He specifically highlighted that Scottish and Norwegian fans departed with a refreshed, positive impression of the United States.
Concluding his remarks on the matter, the President noted there are two games remaining in the tournament, with one scheduled for today and another on Sunday, before finishing his speech at the summit.
