Man Shot After Swinging Machete at DeKalb County Gas Station; Suspect Flees

DeKALB COUNTY, Georgia — DeKalb County Police spokespersons confirmed an investigation is underway after a man armed with a machete was shot at a gas station Monday evening, with the person who fired the weapon fleeing the scene before authorities arrived.

According to police spokespersons, the incident occurred at a gas station on South Stone Mountain Lithonia Road. Video footage reviewed by investigators shows a man walking outside the station while carrying a machete. The individual then began swinging the blade at a parked vehicle.

Witnesses told police that another man approached the machete-wielding individual and shot him during the confrontation. Police spokespersons stated the gunman immediately left the area in a vehicle prior to law enforcement’s arrival.

The man who was struck by gunfire was transported to a local hospital. Police spokespersons reported he is currently in stable condition.

As of the latest update, DeKalb County Police spokespersons said the investigation remains active. No arrests have been made, and authorities are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses to identify and locate the person who fired the shot.

Police spokespersons urged anyone with information about the incident or who may have additional video footage from the area around the time of the shooting to contact the DeKalb County Police Department.
