CHICAGO, Illinois — One person was killed Tuesday afternoon during a shooting involving FBI agents on the city’s West Side, law enforcement confirmed.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. in the 3800 block of Lexington Street, near Central Avenue and Garfield Park. The FBI confirmed it is reviewing an agent-involved shooting but declined to specify the nature of the underlying investigation or provide additional details, citing an ongoing review.
According to family members, the deceased man was inside a vehicle that was not moving at the time of the shooting. An unnamed brother of the deceased provided video footage recorded by his sister, which he said shows his sibling inside the car. Another sibling was on a FaceTime call with the man during the incident, the family stated.
“My little brother just died today. He was praying to Allah as he was on the phone because he was scared,” the brother said. “That’s the only reason he didn’t get out of the car. So by him being scared, that cost him his life.”
The brother also alleged that individuals told the deceased, “We’ll be back and we got something for you,” though these claims have not been independently verified by authorities.
Investigators shut down the street following the shooting, and dozens of evidence markers were placed around the vehicle. Chicago Police confirmed they initially responded to the scene but are now referring all inquiries to the FBI Chicago Office.
In a statement, an FBI spokesperson said the bureau takes all shooting incidents involving its agents or task force members seriously. However, because the incident remains under review, the spokesperson said no further details could be released at this time.
The identity of the deceased has not been publicly released pending notification of next of kin and completion of investigative procedures. The FBI continues to lead the review of the incident.
