A Mother’s Day morning chain-reaction crash on the Merritt Parkway has left three people dead, and Connecticut State Police are now searching for a driver who fled the scene on foot.
The fiery collision occurred around 4:45 a.m. yesterday in the southbound lanes near Exit 37 in Stratford. According to investigators, the driver of a 2014 Lexus sedan struck a 2008 Honda Civic from behind while traveling in the parkway’s right lane. The impact was so violent that the Honda was propelled into the red Chrysler 300 convertible in front of it, sparking a fire inside the Honda.
The driver and two passengers inside the Honda Civic all died at the scene. State police have identified one victim as a 29-year-old female from Trenton. The second victim is listed as a 21-year-old female, address unknown. The third victim is described as an unknown female as well.
The driver of the Lexus fled before police arrived, presumably on foot, as the vehicle remained at the scene. All three vehicles are now being processed at the Connecticut State Police Troop G barracks in Bridgeport, where two of the cars are visible in the back parking lot and a third is inside the garage.
Investigators have made no arrests and filed no charges at this time. They are asking for the public’s assistance, particularly any witnesses who may have seen erratic driving before the crash.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Connecticut State Police.
