Man Found Shot Dead at South San Antonio Home; Arson Investigators Called to Scene

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A homicide investigation is underway after a man was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head inside a home on the city’s south side Friday afternoon, prompting arson investigators to examine the scene for possible evidence of a cover-up.

The body was found at a residence on Prairie Hill Drive, near Interstate 35 and Palo Alto Road. According to police, the victim—believed to be in his 30s or 40s—had been shot in the back of the head. Officers were called to the location just after 1:30 p.m. following a neighbor’s report that a person had been shot and the body remained inside the home.

During their search of the property, officers discovered what they believe to be gasoline spread throughout the house. Arson investigators arrived on the scene shortly afterward to determine whether the killer attempted to destroy evidence of the crime.

Police have indicated that the house was under renovation at the time of the incident, with a work crew regularly coming and going to clear the property. Investigators believe the victim was a member of that work crew.

The shooting is believed to have occurred sometime overnight. No weapon was found at the scene, and no other individuals were located inside the home.

A sergeant on the scene confirmed that one person has been detained and taken downtown for questioning. The individual, described as a friend of the victim, is not considered a suspect at this time. Police said he may be the last person to have seen the man alive.

The investigation remains active, with authorities continuing to gather evidence from the scene.
