WASHINGTON — Former Trump 2024 campaign deputy communications director Caroline Sunshine is praising President Donald Trump’s decision to double down on his immigration enforcement policy, even as the nation witnesses an astronomical rise in political violence and targeted attacks on ICE agents. As the administration moves to enforce longstanding federal immigration laws, officials are pushing back against what they describe as coordinated obstruction and dangerous rhetoric from political opponents.

The surge in hostility toward federal immigration officers has become a focal point for administration allies. Border Czar Tom Homan and political analyst Scott Jennings have both pointed to dangerous, far-left rhetoric as the driving force behind the escalating violence. This includes a recent incident in which a left-wing anti-ICE rioter attempted to firebomb a New York City federal building while in possession of anti-ICE gear.

Caroline Sunshine emphasized that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is simply enforcing laws that have long been on the books, specifically pointing to 8 U.S. Code 1325, which dictates that individuals who enter the country unlawfully must be removed.

“It’s a lot easier to import 10 million people into your country than it is to deport them,” Sunshine noted. She argued that because certain immigration policies are deeply unpopular with the American public, political opponents have resorted to obstructing the law and intentionally targeting one of President Trump’s most popular campaign promises. She contrasted the current climate with previous administrations, noting that mass deportations under President Barack Obama did not spark similar attacks or excusing rhetoric from political factions.

President Donald Trump recently addressed the violence directly, condemning the perpetrators of the federal building fire. Trump stated that the individuals responsible were “radical lunatics” who should not have been allowed into the country, firmly affirming his commitment to removing them.

The administration maintains that its aggressive enforcement actions are necessary to clean up the consequences of open-border policies. Officials point out that an estimated 650,000 criminal illegal aliens have entered the U.S. over the last 40 years, with a notable uptick during the Joe Biden administration. This surge includes members of transnational criminal gangs such as Tren de Aragua and MS-13, as well as individuals convicted of murder, kidnapping, and rape.

To counter narratives that portray immigration enforcement in an unflattering light, supporters are highlighting recent operational successes. For instance, ICE recently arrested a convicted child rapist. Senator Marco Rubio also drew attention to the deportation of an unlawful immigrant convicted as a child pedophile, noting that the individual had previously been pardoned by Tim Walz.

Despite what supporters describe as a media focus on controversial enforcement actions, Sunshine argued that the Trump administration is effectively executing its mandate.
