President Trump has issued a formal warning to hospitals across the United States, stating they will face financial penalties if they continue failing to provide the public with basic pricing information. Warning letters have been sent to more than 500 hospitals nationwide, including several in the Bay Area such as El Camino Health in Mountain View and the Jewish Home and Rehab in San Francisco.
The administration’s initiative aims to ensure patients, employers, and insurers can access service pricing information upfront, preventing unexpected costs and promoting informed healthcare decisions. Under current regulations, failure to comply with price transparency requirements could result in fines of up to $2 million per violation.
Healthcare advocates have long supported greater pricing visibility, arguing it empowers consumers and fosters competition. Hospitals are now urged to review their disclosure practices to avoid potential enforcement actions.
