Woman Killed in Stabbing at Oakland City MARTA Station; Suspect Arrested

ATLANTA, Georgia — A woman died following a stabbing aboard a MARTA train at the Oakland City Station around noon, authorities confirmed. Officers responding to the scene immediately located and arrested a suspect.

MARTA police, who were patrolling the station at the time, provided emergency treatment to the victim, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. A MARTA spokesperson described the attack as a “senseless act of violence” and extended condolences to the victim’s loved ones and those who witnessed the incident.

Rider reactions following the stabbing were mixed. Some passengers expressed heightened concerns about personal safety, while others characterized the event as an isolated incident that would not alter their transit habits. Angel Haskell, a resident living across from the Oakland City Station, said the news was deeply saddening and may prompt her to drive more frequently. “Hearing someone was stabbed just initially anywhere that’s crazy,” Haskell said, adding that she felt for the trauma the victim’s family must be enduring.

A MARTA spokesperson acknowledged the fear such incidents can cause and emphasized that agency police are actively investigating the case.

This stabbing marks the third separate violent incident at metro Atlanta MARTA stations in just over a month. Last Sunday, a man was stabbed at the Georgia State MARTA station downtown and transported to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening; that investigation remains ongoing. On April 27, 16-year-old was fatally shot during a gun battle at the Oakland City station’s bus loop. Two men have been charged with murder in connection with that incident.

MARTA officials continue to urge riders to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity as the investigation into the latest stabbing proceeds.
