SEGUIN, Texas — A 35-year-old woman was fatally shot and a 37-year-old man was seriously injured during a shooting in the parking lot of a Seguin Walmart just before 5 p.m., according to Seguin police authorities. Both victims are residents of Seguin.
Authorities identified the deceased woman as Katrina Wheeler. She was apparently loading groceries into her vehicle when the shooting occurred. The male victim, whose name has not been released, was shot twice and airlifted to a San Antonio hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.
The suspect, identified as John Wheeler, was located outside the city limits of Seguin shortly after the incident and taken into custody. Seguin police authorities confirmed he is currently being interviewed by detectives.
Seguin police authorities stated that approximately seven to ten shots were fired in the busy parking lot. Evidence markers were placed near a basket full of groceries at the scene. While the entire incident occurred outside, authorities noted that the injured man attempted to run into the store to seek help.
At this stage of the investigation, Seguin police authorities say it is too early to speculate about a motive. They also indicated they are still determining the relationship between the individuals involved.
The investigation remains active as detectives continue to gather information. Authorities have not released further details at this time.
