COBB COUNTY, Georgia — Cobb County Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon in the Macy’s parking lot at Town Center Mall.
According to a Cobb County Police Public Information Officer, officers responded to a reported shoplifting incident at 1:59 p.m. Approximately ten minutes later, at least one officer discharged their firearm, striking an individual. The circumstances surrounding the 11-minute interval between the initial call and the shooting remain under review.
No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident. The Public Information Officer stated that no update on the condition of the person who was shot was available at the time of reporting.
Investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are leading the probe, consistent with state protocol for officer-involved shootings. At the scene, a section of the parking lot remained cordoned off as personnel documented evidence markers and photographed the area. Mall operations outside the immediate vicinity continued as normal.
Authorities have not released the identity of the individual who was shot or additional details about the sequence of events. The Cobb County Police Public Information Officer emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and urged the public to avoid the area to allow investigators to work.
