Glendale, Wisconsin — A holiday weekend gathering at a Glendale vacation rental ended in gunfire early Monday morning, injuring a 22-year-old man and intensifying resident concerns about recurring disturbances at the riverfront property.
Glendale Police confirmed the shooting occurred around 1:07 a.m. Monday at a short-term rental home on Riverview Drive near Sunny Point, along the Milwaukee River. Authorities stated one person was struck by gunfire while others fled the scene. Neighbors reported a large party at the property Sunday night, with an estimated 30 to 40 vehicles lining the typically quiet residential street.
“At 1:07 a.m., I know the time because I checked my clock, I heard shots fired,” one resident recounted. Others described seeing people running through yards and attempting to flee in vehicles as emergency responders arrived.
This incident marks another serious event at the property. Two years ago, a guest drowned at the same short-term rental. Local residents report contacting authorities about disturbances at the home at least six times over the past three years.
Margie Groh, a neighbor who maintains regular contact with the property owner, expressed frustration while advocating for improved oversight. “It’s just hard when you have, obviously, a large gathering of people that aren’t residents in the community, causing major problem and chaos,” Groh said. “I’m not saying, okay, we got to kick him out. We got to get rid of this. What I do think is… he needs to do a better job of keeping an eye on what’s going on here.”
Other residents support stricter measures. “I think the Airbnb should no longer be able to operate. There needs to be something done. There needs to be consequences for these types of actions,” another neighbor stated.
Efforts to reach the property owner for comment were unsuccessful. Inquiries submitted to Glendale Police regarding historical service calls to the address, as well as messages to vacation rental platforms VRBO and Airbnb seeking current listing details, had not received responses at the time of publication.
The shooting has renewed community discussions about balancing short-term rental operations with residential neighborhood safety, particularly during high-traffic holiday periods. Residents continue to call for clearer accountability and proactive management from property owners and rental platforms.
