Ferris, Texas — A seven-year-old child was fatally shot by another child Saturday afternoon in a rural North Texas city, according to law enforcement officials. Ellis County authorities confirmed that Takievon Holmes, 24, is in custody in connection with the incident.

Investigators stated that a young child gained access to a firearm, which discharged and struck the seven-year-old victim. Authorities have not released the age of the child who was handling the firearm, nor have they disclosed the relationship between Holmes and the children involved.
