Trump: Iran Nuclear Deal Not Finalized, Pledges ‘Good and Proper’ Agreement

President Donald Trump stated Sunday that negotiations with Iran have not yet produced a finalized deal, while emphasizing that any agreement reached would be “good and proper” for all sides.

According to Trump, the talks are “proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner.” He instructed U.S. representatives not to rush into an agreement, noting that “time is on our side.” The president added that the naval blockade will remain in full force until a deal is certified and signed.

Regional diplomats in Qatar have described the current state of negotiations as a “breakthrough,” though U.S. officials acknowledge that the process could still collapse. The potential framework under discussion includes a possible six-day ceasefire tied to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and removing any mines laid there. In exchange, the United States would lift its naval blockade and ease certain sanctions on Iran.

Broader discussions on Iran’s nuclear program are expected to continue over the coming weeks. Iran’s president said his country is ready to reassure the world that it is “not seeking nuclear weapons” and “not seeking instability in the region.”

Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke overnight. Netanyahu stated that the two leaders are aligned on many issues, but Israel maintains firm positions. These include Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah in Lebanon amid ongoing flare-ups along the border, and a shared U.S.-Israel stance that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

The Associated Press reported that Trump made it clear to Netanyahu he would not sign any final agreement without Iran dismantling its entire nuclear program. This position aligns with the long-standing United States red line on the issue.

While the White House has expressed confidence for weeks that a deal can be achieved, the current optimism is also being voiced by Gulf state officials who see significant progress. However, both sides stress that nothing is complete until it is formally signed, sealed, and delivered.
