13-Year-Old Boy Critically Injured After Being Shot in the Head in South Chicago

CHICAGO, Illinois — A 13-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being shot twice, including once in the head, in a residential area on Chicago’s South Side.

Police responded to the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue around 2:50 p.m. near EPIC Academy, a public charter high school. Officers found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Area Two detectives investigated both the shooting scene and the hospital, collecting evidence and conducting interviews. A law enforcement source confirmed that police have taken one person into custody and are currently questioning them.

The boy’s condition continues to be monitored at the hospital as the investigation proceeds.
